I feel like we should try to get one of these for the next TWFoP – The Reaper pizza pie
“Their challenge: devour “The Reaper,” a monstrous pizza the equivalent of four large pies, with almost 3.5 pounds of dough spread 28 inches across.
Pisanello’s Pizza is offering the dish for its 26th anniversary with a call for the biggest eaters.
If two people eat the two-topping pie in 30 minutes without leaving the table, it’s free.”
Pie-Way Robbery
From the renowned “Belleville Intelligencer” comes a harrowing tale of a pizza delivery gone bad.
“The suspects were last seen running along Alexander Street with the pizza in hand.”

Lo! I have discovered another recipe for Tamale Pie, and it sounds like it has the two things I need in a pie recipe – ease and tastiness.
“My family has enjoyed it, and it is easy to make.”
Hey, who am I to argue with that in-depth reporting?

It Starts with a Crust
At some point soonish, I will want to break out from my cheeseburger pie and begin to make other sorts of pie-related yumminess. When I do, I will likely have to ditch the crust made from Pillsbury crescent rolls and learn how to make other crusts, proper crusts you might say. With that in mind, handy that I came across this article about making a crust that might belong on “the perfect pie”. Something that concerns me about such a crust however (and I will need to deal with in a very real, search-your-feelings manner) is the matter of lard.
Some health-conscious people will want to avoid lard in favor of a more user-friendly fat but still make a crust that stands above the rest. They can ride their magic unicorn over the waves of the Sea of Improbability and find a healthy substitute in a nice little bodega on the Isle of Not Going To Happen. Everyone else can keep reading.
Lemon Pie with Italian Meringue
Here’s a recipe for a fun twist on the standard lemon meringue pie – what makes it so special?
The crust is a sweet dough that also incorporates a hint of almond flour, the filling is a rich lemon curd and the billowy topping is an Italian meringue that makes you want to dive into it.
Me want.
Pushing Daisies

I would be remiss if I did not mention the television show Pushing Daisies on this blog, featuring “an eccentric protagonist who’s a pie maker by day and a P.I. by night”.
I admit I have yet to watch it (I’m not, in fact, certain it has begun yet). But the premise just sound, well, fun!
He makes his living baking pies for his restaurant, The Pie Hole, which is shaped like a gigantic two-crust dessert. And the reason his pies are so extraordinary is because he can touch fruit that’s gone bad and return it to peak ripeness. Ned can bring any dead thing back to life with a touch.
Does anyone who watches TV for more than the morning traffic report know anything more about the show, and/or might you be able to provide a review? Pie-enquiring minds want to know!

Recently, author Jill Carol Brown, aka “Sweet Potato Queen” released her newest book titled “The Sweet Potato Queen’s Guide to Raising Children For Fun and Profit”. In it, she describes a dish sure to be a hit if created for the next TWFoP – “Tammy Georgia’s 80-Proof Cherry Pie“.
Some of the subjects in Browne’s latest book include the right way to throw a birthday party for your child; how to handle those parents who are not just tardy but horribly late picking up their children from a party; and the best way to have a conversation with a pregnant woman.
The recipes range from “Mom’s Fabulous Beanie Sandwiches” to “Carrots A Kid Could Love” and “Tammy Georgia’s 80-Proof Cherry Pie,” which Browne describes by saying “it tastes like a nice cool drink of cherry pie, but feels like any martini you have ever had.”
Yum!

National Pie Day? HA! Over across the pond, they are planning to celebrate British Pie Week!
John McKears, foodservice sales manager for Jus-Rol, said: “The pie is justifiably one of the great British favourites. Being the UK’s most popular pastry dish, Jus-Rol felt it truly deserved its own national week and are delighted to be associated with its launch.”

When faced with the common ice breaker question “What one person would you most like to have dinner with?”, I have a new answer: The Pie Minister.
A crisp, cold winter’s day in Bristol and little plumes of steam rise from St Nicholas Market.
They’re coming from the plates of customers at the Pie Minister stall, tucking into a heart-warming range of pies: pork and bacon, minty lamb, tarragon chicken, beef, chorizo, goat’s cheese and sweet potato, and butternut squash with blackeye beans.
Perhaps my wife and I ought to take a pie themed vacation this summer, “The Pies of Europe” or something… but I digress.
